Feel the uncertainty, doubt, and danger faced by the pioneer women of Kansas as they defend their homes and pray for their men during the Civil War.
We think the Civil War took place in the South, but the Plains States endured their share of battles and tragedy. Not only did Kansas and Missouri experience a resurgence in the terrorist raids that had plagued them in the years before the war, but the Confederate Army tried several times to sweep across the Great Plains and capture the West.
Stitch of Courage, the third book in the Trail of Thread series, tells the story of the orphaned Maggie Kennedy, who followed her brothers to Kansas in the late 1850s. The niece of Margaret Ralston Kennedy, the main character in Hubalek's Thimble of Soil book, Maggie married the son of Deborah Pieratt, whose story was told in the Hubalek's Trial of Thread book.
In letters to her sister in Ohio, Maggie describes how the women of Kansas faced the demons of the Civil War, fighting bravely to protect their homes and families while never knowing from one day to the next whether their men were alive or dead on the faraway battlefield.

Interesting with a good historical base. The quilting theme seemed more of an add-in than the actual subject and was not developed as I had hoped it would be. I liked the "letters home" style but it would have been nice to occasionally have shown one of the letters she received or, at least, a few more comments about the letters that she was, supposedly, replying to.I'll cheat here and admit to having read the entire series. This s the best of the three which is why I gave it 3 stars, with progressive books little more than "history" recitations. Letters supposedly written about every current events of the period were unbelievable in that the "writer" would not have been privy to so much detailed historical information within days of actual events.

Stitch of Courage A Woman Fight for Freedom Book 3 in the Trail of Thread Series (Audible Audio Edition) Linda K Hubalek Heather Elizabeth Lynn Farrar Butterfield Books Inc Books Reviews
A very good accounting of the trials and tribulations of that time.
No problems, the product is as advertised.
I enjoyed the continuing saga of this family and getting how the Civil War played a part in developing KANSAS.
I am enjoying not only the conversation in the letters written in the book but the American history that I had not thought of
Great continuance of the series. What a treasure to have for future generations to the family tree. I enjoyed reading this book and the historical descriptions of the battles in the war.
All 3 books are remarkable.
From a woman's standpoint of life in unsettled Kansas
The books should also be read by young adults to
gain knowledge and understanding of how America
was settled and the hardships endured. Life today is
easy by comparison.
This was the third in the series and covered the time period of the civil war. When I got to the middle of the book I started skimming or fast reading til the end as it was mostly describing the civil war battles, and also battles with the Indians. It carried the series til the end of the war and completed the series but I didn't think it was as well written as the first two. When the book ended-it just ended and for me didn't seem like the ending.
I also kinda thought this being the third book perhaps the author would have added letters coming back to the author of all of the letters. I also don't think someone writing these letters would have gone into so much detail to all the battles described-unless she was copying from the newspaper she was reading.
I am glad I read it though to complete the series.
